Pictures

CMD 2015 can display and print pictures of families or individuals in your data file. Primarily, you will use the Show Picture dialog to display, find, or clear a picture of a family or individual. The Show Picture dialog is available from:

The Enter/Modify/Delete Names dialog. Click the Family Picture button near the upper right corner or the Family Data area to define or view a picture of the family.

Click the Individual Picture button just to the right of the Regular Attender field near the upper right corner of the Individuals Data Area.

The Family Name Search dialog. Click either the Show Family Picture button or the Show Individual Picture button.

The Individual Name Search dialog. Select the Show Family Picture or the Show Individual Picture button. The pictures that are displayed always related to the currently highlighted family or individual.

Pictures are printed on various forms that CMD generates including the Child Registry page, Offices Rap Sheet, Individual and Family Profiles, and any of several Church Directory output forms.

CMD Picture Format and Dimensions

This is very important! All of CMD’s pictures use the same proportion, dimensions, and resolution. When you import a picture into the CMD file for a person or a family, always use the recommended dimensions, format, and resolution. If you ignore them, you may well overrun CMD’s internal buffers and create errors when the pictures are printed or displayed. Further, the pictures will not be displayed in correct proportion.

See Picture Specifications for specifics.

Three special notes that are important to remember when using pictures:

Make crop and resolution adjustments to your pictures and place them in the CMD Pictures folder before you attempt to connect them to a family or individual in CMD. You cannot edit pictures within CMD. You will need picture editing software for that task.

Make sure you save your pictures as JPeg's.

Make sure you place your saved pictures in the CMD Pictures folder as defined when you set up your CMD Data File Path. If you need to change or update the pictures folder, go to the Configuration Update dialog and change the path to your pictures there. This is important because CMD only stores the picture name itself in the data files, and NOT the path to where they are located. If you do not place the pictures in the CMD Pictures folder, CMD will not know where to find them!

Backup and Restore for Pictures

The process of backing up and restoring pictures is done separately from the main CMD data files. This is because the size of your backup file could swell considerably otherwise, possibly making it impossible to restore the data on another machine.

The Backup dialog has separate choices for backing up your data and the pictures. We do recommend that you backup your pictures files occasionally for safekeeping. Backup will look in the folder you've designated for pictures on CMD's Configuration Update dialog.

The Restore dialog likewise has a separate process for restoring pictures. Should you need to restore pictures, the Restore function will sense if there are pictures in the backup file you have selected and will enable that option when it finds them. The pictures will be restored into the data folder you've designated for pictures on CMD's Configuration Update dialog.

CMD is designed so that you can pass the CMD data files back and forth without pictures if you wish, and the CMD will remain fully functional, except of course no pictures will be displayed!
