Headlining the new features in CMD 2020 is our new Mac version!
Mac users can now run a native Mac CMD app without apps like Parallels, etc, working with it. It's now a true native Mac app, so it works (and looks) like other Mac apps.
This means that CMD is now available in a variety for formats/options:
•Single Computer Use. You can use native versions for either Windows or Mac computers
•Networked Use. You can use Windows computers to connect to a single physical CMD database within your local network
Mac users will soon be able to connect into such a network as well, as long as you have a Windows computer that acts as the host for CMD's data.
This option requires the optional Remote Database Server software, available directly from Software for Ministry.
Note that eventually we expect that either Mac or Windows computers will be able to act as the host computer for CMD's data with computers of either platform able to connect and access the CMD data.
•Hosted Platform Option. Use this option if you need to be able to access CMD from off-site or if you need to have both Windows and Mac based computers be able to access it now. Both Windows and Mac computers can connect and use the software on the hosted platform. In addition, the hosted platform provides free access to our phone and tablet apps. These apps are only available on the hosted platform. For more information about the hosted platform and the advantages of using it, click here.
Much of the prep for for 2020 has centered around getting CMD to work with the Mac platform as well as Windows, but there are a few things that we've finally finished with the FMX version:
•Statistics Output Forms are finished
•Format B with Pictures (one of the Church Directory Output Form options) is finished
•Individuals Selection is finished and implemented. Click here for more information.
•The Enter/Modify/Delete Names page received a major update by replacing the list of individual names with tabs across the top of the Individuals Data area similar to the way Classic has been doing it for years. This change opened up some space on the dialog to expand a number of fields that did not have enough room to display everything before. The whole dialog has a much less crowded feel to it. You might find that you will need to adjust the bottom and side edges of the dialog to show all the fields
•We have removed two output forms that no longer appear to be used: eDirectory and Rotary Cards. If you need either of these functions, they are still available in the Classic version of CMD
•Brand new Documents feature is now implemented. This new feature allows you to link documents on your disk to any name in your file. You can even call up the Documents to be viewed/printed right from within CMD.
Starting in 2020, you can select from among a number of different color/contrast styles for your CMD 2020 program. It is likely that only a few of them will be useful on your monitor. But you can try various ones to see which ones look best on your computer screen.
Styles are selected by an option on the Preferences menu.
