There are 4 user date fields that you can use for any purpose you wish. You may rename any or all of them by selecting the User Field Names tab page on the General Preferences dialog.

You may enter a date by typing it in or by clicking the calendar icon to the right edge of the box and pick the date from a pop-up calendar.

Note that you cannot enter a partial date. If the person for whom you are recording the date can't or won't provide the year, we suggest using 1900 as a placeholder year so that you can get the other parts of the date entered. Age and year calculations will be obviously off for such dates, but at least you'll have access to this name in printed lists where the month and day are relevant.
