Name tags may be printed in CMD from the Enter Attendance dialog using current Dymo LabelWriter™ printers. These are small, inexpensive thermal-based printers that quickly print name tags or badges on one of several forms. The terms label, name tag, and name badge will be used interchangeably when discussing name tags. That's because a name tag is basically a large shipping label with the same adhesive on it. There are differing sizes, but they are basically all the same.
Generally it takes about two seconds to print a name on the label, so you can print these name tags as people are walking in to your church or activity without causing undo delay.
You can purchase a LabelWriter at most office products retailers such as Staples, Office Depot, etc, as well as many computer stores and through on-line outlets. We have tested CMD's name badge printing process using their Turbo 400 and Twin Turbo models, though other LabelWriter models should work fine as well.
At this time, name tags are formatted to be printed on one of three available labels sizes. Each is 4 inches wide with varying heights:
•Dymo #30573, generally available at Staples and Office Depot type stores. These labels are 2-1/8 x 4 inches.
•Dymo #30256, their label shipping label which is 2-5/16 x 4 inches. Usually this one has to be ordered.
•Dymo #30857, which is their designated name badge label with adhesive backing which is 2-1/4 x 4 inches. You can also get the non-adhesive #30856 if you prefer. Dymo also makes small plastic clips for use with these name badge forms, #30887.
Dymo labels can be purchased at Dymo's web site as well as many office products retailers. You can also purchase 3rd party labels from on-line vendors such as LabelCity.com. While not an endorsement, we have purchased from them and found their products and customer service to be excellent. Label City's form 120300 is the same as Dymo's 30256, but is less expensive.
If you are serious about using name tags, you'll want to purchase your supplies on-line where you can get quantity discounts. Since the printer is a thermal printer, you won't ever have to worry about toner or ink, and these labels are actually much less expensive than most sheet-based name tags that we priced at office product stores.
We make no guarantee that the adhesive on these forms will not cause problems with some fabrics. We have been advised by Dymo that the adhesive is the same on the name badge as is on the shipping labels. Some fabrics might be damaged by the adhesive, and it will be your responsibility to use due caution. If you are concerned about the fabric, you can use the non-adhesive badge listed above.
