We are very pleased for the first introduction of a help system in CMD 2015 FMX in version 2015.5. The way Help files are created and then accessed for the FMX version of CMD is substantially different than with CMD Classic. In fact, a whole new help authoring program was required to produce it.
The new help system is web-based, meaning it appears on a browser screen. We now have a new internal browser screen for CMD use only, so when it appears it has a nice, clean look to it. When it starts up, it will appear full-screen.
One feature we are all used to in Classic was that wherever you are in the program, pressing F1 always brought up help. And, if your cursor was in one of the fields on dialogs such as Enter/Modify/Delete Names, the help that appeared was always context-sensitive, meaning it was about the thing you were currently working on.
While the content in the FMX files is largely the same (except for where the new user interface forced differences), it takes on a different form. Most notablly, missing is the F1 key and its convenience. To get help now, click the Help button on the dialog on which you are working. A general help topic for that dialog, always with links to "drill down" deeper in the help topics when needed. There's also a full table-of-contents style listing on the left side of the help screen, and there are two icons above that will give you a Keyword Index Listing that you can search, and also a Search function that will allow you to search for any word or phrase anywhere in the help file.
You can also access help most anywhere in the CMD program by typing Ctrl-h.
While we have hooked up all currently available functions and dialogs to a help topic now, you may notice that there are some help topics in the help files for features that are not yet finished in CMD FMX. As those remaining features are added, we'll of course hook up the help topics to them.
We would be grateful for your feedback on the new help system and its usefulness in CMD FMX.
