Add New Family Member drop-down box

The Add New Family Member drop-down list is available in the Family Member Data area on the Enter/Modify/Delete Names dialog, and is used to create space for a family member attached to a family that has been entered.
This is the only way provided in CMD to add an individual name to the file! It must always be done in connection with a family, since the family record is what provides the address and phone information for the members of the family.
When you open this drop-down, a list of several different types of family members that you can add appears. These choices also appear on the Family Status field in the Family Members Data area. Be sure to select the correct type of family member when you add a new member:
Though you can enter individuals in any order you wish, we strongly suggest that you enter them in this order:
Husband, wife, children in age order. Or...
Single Parent, children in age order. Or...
Partner, (other partners), children in age order.
Many of the choices on the list are self-evident and need no additional comment. However, these do:
•Minor Child. Use this option for children who are under 18 living in your home.
•Adult Child. Use this option when you have an adult child still living with you. Alternately you may wish to give an adult child his/her own family record even if they still live at your address so that they can receive their own mailings. Having their local church think of them as adults in their own right even if they are still living at home makes a positive statement to a young adult.
•Other Dependent. Use this item for adult seniors, foster children, or other dependents that are living with you.
•Independent Minor. This item should be used in those cases where you need to establish a family record that only will include a minor child or minor children where there will be no adult entries. This allows CMD to correctly format such names in a church directory.
•Partner. Use this field to track domestic partners.
•Organization. Use this selection if you wish to enter an organization in the regular CMD data base instead of the Organizations data base in CMD. You might wish to do this, for example, if you want to send your newsletter to organizations in your area.
•Reassign a Name. Click this link for detailed information on reassigning names.
•Organization. Use this choice if you need to enter an organization where family names are stored in CMD rather than in the separate Organizations data base that CMD provides.
